Are the Razer Blade and Acer Nitro 5 laptops as horrible as I've heard?

Although I’m not usually drawn to high-performance computers, I need one for university work, particularly for 3D modeling sessions in Blender. This is going to be my first purchase of such a device. I discovered a used Razer Blade 15 Advanced Edition with an i7 11800H processor, RTX 3080 with 8 GB VRAM, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and a 2.5K 165Hz screen for $1411 with 95% battery life, which appears to be an excellent offer. However, I later stumbled across a new ACER NITRO 5 with an i5 12450H processor, RTX 4060, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, and an FHD 144Hz screen, priced at $1735. Following a brief web investigation, I discovered that both product lines have received unfavorable feedback and are generally not recommended. I’m not sure if they have significant faults compared to other laptops, or if the criticism is restricted to people who have had bad experiences. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Furthermore, I am considering installing Linux on my future laptop and discovered that Razer laptops support custom and open-source drivers, which could be beneficial to me.

If blender is a priority, it loves a great GPU and loads of RAM; solely based on my preference for using blender, I would go for the Acer 4060.

Even assuming they are American, these are both quite high costs. I recommend acquiring neither of these.

An ancient AN5? Yes. They’re pretty nasty about 2021 or later. A newer 2022-2024 AN5. They are fine. Solid budget machines. An ANV is also a sturdy machine.
Razer only has the occasional quality control issue, based on my and my friend’s experience. Nothing too horrible there, but be cautious when purchasing used technology. I would not recommend purchasing the Razer since, presuming it is American, the price is exorbitant and you can obtain a brand new 4070 laptop for that amount.

Honestly, this is a funny post because you are essentially comparing premium high-end with inexpensive items. Again, the pricing are horrible, and if you buy either of these you should be kicking yourself.

Actually, I believe it was incorrect to write this without first stating that I am from a third-world nation where customs costs are prohibitively high, and yes, I believe there is no customer service in this forum, therefore no brand can have a pro or a con in this category…but thank you for your opinion and assistance!!!

The Nitro is only awful because of how they built it and opted for a shorter battery and to buy a priority HSD, but other than the thermal, it’s fairly wonderful and an outstanding workhorse.

The Razer, on the other hand, is for fuck you money and, like iPhones, has all the highest and best elements. However, with a price tag to match that of an iPhone and an iPhone Pro, don’t buy them unless you have fuck you money.

However, considering the price, it is preferable to get a used Razer over a Nitro, which costs around $500/600 more.

Also, consider the candlea candelas brightness of the screen. I don’t think you’d want to end up with the razer only for it to be 2500k candlea while the nitro was like 7000K candalea

Can confirm. The Nitro lineup began as the cheapest “gaming laptop” available, and they cut several compromises to achieve this. I still use the first-generation device, and the hardware isn’t holding up very well.

While it was OK in 2017 and 2018, it would be illegal for laptop makers to offer gaming laptops with an HDD bay, a 250-nit screen with 45% NTSC, and a single exhaust in the back currently.
