Can I Set Up My Gaming Laptop Like This

I’m new to gaming laptops and need some advice. I have my laptop on a cooling pad, which is on a flat table, and there’s a blanket under the table. Is it okay to leave the cooling pad flat, or should I raise it? Thanks for your help!

Your setup should be fine as long as there’s enough space for the laptop’s fans to breathe.

Keep the power brick away from the cooling pad to avoid it sucking in heat.

Thanks, I didn’t realize that. Moving it now!

Also, make sure not to put the charger on your bed—it can overheat.

@Reese
Will do, thanks for the tip!

Is that a blanket from a desi household I spot in the background?

@Vero
Yep, I’m Asian!

Classic, haha!

It’s a good idea to place the power brick in a different spot since it generates heat. Other than that, your setup sounds good.

Relocate? Someone’s using their thesaurus today!

Too stoned to care, bro.

Looks good. If it feels more comfortable, you could also place the power supply on the floor.

Got it, thanks!

The heavier power brick might pull on the cord, which is probably why it’s placed closer.

I’ve logged over 500 hours on Cyberpunk with my setup not too different from yours—on a lapdesk in bed. No cooling pad, just a roll of lozenges for extra fan space. Enjoy your gaming!

That’s reassuring, thanks!

My advice,

  1. The cooling pad has 2 levels of height with the legs. Extend both legs to the highest setting (level 2) and then while they are open and extended try to close the legs into the underbody of the cooler. It will create a level higher then standard (no open legs) but lower then the first height level. Which will still keep your setup low but have more air room under the cooler. and the cooler will still be resting on the rubber feet because this is actually an official level of height for the cooler.
  2. Turn the laptop on and wait for it to get to the homescreen before putting it on the cooler, To avoid any potential airflow roating the fans while the laptop is off. Also shut the cooler off directly after pressing power off. Usually i keep it on 300rpm when not gaming and found out that during heavy gaming 800rpm has worked great for me. Never needed to go higher then that.
  3. keep the charger plugged into a surge protector to protect your expensive laptop. Power outtages can happen to anyone and rather be safe then sorry. They are usually pretty cheap too.
  4. as others have mentioned try to keep the power cable box away from the cooler as that generates heat around it and the cooler will suck that heat up. Were ever you end up putting it just be sure its not in a way that can cause damage to the plug in outlet on your laptop.

I play in bed as well but i use this metal laptop table with holes underneath, were i place the laptop cooler on top (just about fits) and then the laptop on top of that. Here is an image of the table and an image of how it is for me gaming on the bed.

Which fan speed do you use for gaming on that cooler?
