Can you recommend a budget-friendly gaming laptop for a newly released childhood favorite game?

Looking for an affordable laptop that can handle Age of Mythology’s new release. Any advice?

Could you specify your budget and the country where you’ll be purchasing?

Of course, my apologies for omitting that. I’m in London, UK, hoping to spend around £400-£500, hopefully less if possible. I’m looking for a laptop just for this game as he doesn’t really play anything else.

@Harmon
If it’s just for that game and he has another laptop for daily use, maybe consider a console like Xbox Series X or S as they might be more budget-friendly.

He does have a MacBook, yes. I suggested the Xbox too, but he prefers a laptop for the nostalgia. Any specific gaming laptops you could recommend that might fit the budget and still run the game well?

@Harmon
For your budget, look into refurbished or gently used laptops like the Lenovo Legion series, Dell G series, or Asus TUF series. Aim for at least 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, with a CPU like 12th gen i5 or Ryzen 5 Zen 3. Check for RTX 4050 or RTX 3060 models if possible.

@Daryn
Thank you very much! This is incredibly helpful, really appreciate it!

@Harmon
An RTX 3050 laptop like the Asus TUF should be sufficient for good graphics performance.

Confirming that an RTX 3050 with even 8GB RAM runs the game well, not just on low settings. I multitask with shows on as well without any issues.

@Harmon
Finding new laptops under £500 with these specifications in the UK is tough without going for a used model.

@Harmon
Consider models like Lenovo LOQ, HP Victus, or Acer Nitro V with an RTX 3050 or Radeon RX 6500M. For future-proofing, try to get an RTX 4050 if it’s within budget.

New laptops in your price range in the UK typically have low specs. If you can stretch your budget a bit, consider a Lenovo LOQ with an RTX 3050 from a local retailer.

@Han
Does the Medion Crawler run the game well? I’m visiting London soon and could buy locally. Any stores or sales you could recommend?

The Medion Crawler with an RTX 3050 could work, but be aware of its basic build and thermal issues. Lowering resolution might help. Here’s where you can find it online: Medion Crawler Deals - Laptops Direct. For a slightly better model, check Lenovo’s site for a LOQ with an RTX 3050.

@Han
Thanks for the link and advice! I’ll look into both options and see if stretching the budget for the Lenovo makes sense.

A GTX 3050 6GB should handle the game well and is slightly more powerful than older models. It’s compatible with many processors that can easily manage the game.

Thanks! Could you suggest some specific models that feature this GPU?

@Harmon
For quality and affordability, check out models like the Ideapad Gaming 3 or Acer Aspire 7. Avoid brands with poor build quality like some MSI or Gigabyte models.

If finding a RTX 4050 is challenging within budget, the RTX 3050 6 GB versions are also good. Popular models include the TUF Gaming A15 and Nitro 5.

For just Age of Mythology, an RTX 3050 will suffice. You can find good deals on Lenovo’s LOQ model by customizing the specs directly on their website.
