Goodbye my dear friend

… I won’t even try to fix you. Sorry. You were a lousy laptop from the start (Asus FA507NV).

You made it sound like you loved it in the title lol

:joy: true

I got it 2 weeks ago, and now this post is making me nervous.

I had the same one you did—4060 with Ryzen 9, open box. It was a great machine until the store messed it up, and now I’m looking for a new laptop. Never again with their warranties. Just my experience, though; maybe others have had better luck.

A15 2023 7735HS with 4060. Shame it died so quickly. Hopefully it’s still under warranty so you can get a refund or replacement.

Which year version was it? Maybe some details on the specs? Last year’s TUF had a pretty good reputation on this forum.

Ouch, that sucks! Hopefully, Asus can make this right for you.

(nervously glances at Razer laptop just out of warranty)

My Acer Predator Helios 300 from 2018 is still going strong after seven years. Hard to believe they could mess up the newer ones so much.

That sucks. This is why I always get extended warranties with high-end purchases, especially gaming laptops. On your next laptop, I’d recommend it. You don’t even have to go with the manufacturer; some insurance companies offer extended coverage and will cut you a check if they can’t repair it.

@Scout
Honestly, I feel like warranties are a waste half the time.

I’m really starting to dread replacing my old, trusty ASUS ROG Strix from back when they were built to last. So many posts like this now…

No need to worry too much. Check out forums for Acer, MSI, Gigabyte, and Lenovo; they’re also filled with complaints about broken devices. Most issues happen due to people not handling their devices carefully.

@Vanya
A repair shop guy once told me that post-2020, most laptops have been using subpar components.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised.

They call it ‘enshittification.’

@Vanya
Take it with a grain of salt. MSI has hinge problems, Gigabyte overheats unless you replace the thermal paste, and Razer/Alienware are overpriced for what they offer.

HP? Don’t even get me started. Avoid.

@Ben
Is there any brand that’s actually good?

Gigabyte and MSI are solid if you can handle a more fragile build, but they’re great on the inside.

ASUS, Acer, and Lenovo are sturdy but a bit more expensive.

HP is only decent if you need an affordable office laptop.

@Ben
Funny enough, I just got a Lenovo recently, and it was actually the cheapest option I found.
