Retail: $3,300…got it on sale for: $2,850 at Best Buy.
Got this bad boy in a week ago and I’m loving it! I had the 4070 and 4080 versions for a few days before I ultimately settled on this 4090 one. I got the 4090 because any of these cards aren’t as powerful as the Blade 16 or Legion 7i with the same cards respectively. The Legion 7i with a 4090 averages roughly 180fps across multiple games while the G16 averages 140fps with the same card (likely because of the slimmer build and more efficient Ultra 9 chip). So it only made sense to get the card that’s the closest in performance to the best performing laptops (Blade 16 & Legion 7i).
So why did I get this laptop instead of getting the best gaming performance ones? Well, literally because of everything else. The screen is THE BEST screen l’ve ever used (and I own 2 iPad Pros,2 MacBook Pros, and 1 windows laptop). It’s a 240hz OLED with 0.2ms response time. The speakers? Better than the MacBooks believe it or not. They’re punchier and just as clear in the vocals. The build quality? F*cking stunning. Everything is compacted into a premium chassis that is incredibly portable. I have yet to find a laptop this slim with this kind of performance (aside from MacBooks). Its efficiency and battery life are also incredibly impressive, especially for the power this produces. That is why it’s the best of both worlds (portability without loosing performance.)
If you’re looking for the best gaming laptop that’ll mostly sit on your desk and act as a gaming rig then the Legion 7i is likely the call. It’s an absolute beast! But if you’re looking for a portable laptop with almost as good performance with a way more enjoyable user experience then I couldn’t recommend this ROG Zephyrus G16 2024 model any more than I already have. If you have any questions hit me up…I’ll be waiting
What kind of travel/commuting do you do that made you opt for this over a Legion? Cross-shopping this and the G14. I want the higher power but should probably opt for the more portable G14 due to travel.
@Hayden
Great question. Firstly I commute to university 2-3 times a week. The drive is roughly 40mins so if I forget my charger I’m not worried as I’ll have plenty of screen time due to that efficient Ultra 9 chip. Secondly, I wanted maximum performance for real quick on the go ease of use. This does exactly that. I was going to get a Steam Deck or ROG Ally on top of a new laptop since I wanted a portable gaming setup but now that I have this G16 I don’t really see the need anymore.
@Nico
Thanks! Yeah I was also considering a handheld to go with the laptop. Then realized I spend every flight zonked out on an edible and will prefer the lappy at the hotel anyway. Enjoy your new beast!
The ports go crazy on the left lol, also what keyboard?
Never owned a Mac and probably never will… battery on my g14 is decent enough. I probably wouldn’t mind a Mac but I’m probably too lazy to learn the niches of another whole OS (I do crazy things to windows).
Wish we had black versions for similar prices around here.
@Florian
lol yeah I hear ya. In all fairness MacOS is really really simple and easy. And the keyboard that’s lit up is the AulaF75. The one behind it is the Blackwidow mini V3.

Oh yeah the f75, shoulda recognized it. Didn’t even see the one underneath the stand. Thanks
No complaints on the machine, except for the intel processor, but if you’re going to game on it, you would have been better suited to find a machine with a 14th Gen i9 over that AI processor.

Completely agree. But for me a 20-40 fps difference is fine to sacrifice for that screen and those speakers. They’re second to none!. Also considering I still get really high fps with high settings on those extra frames aren’t much of a bother ya know?
If I don’t care for portability what high end laptop should I get? 4090 as well. Since I use it mainly at home as a replacement for desktop (due to space)

Depends. Right now the best deal I have seen in a minute is the Lenovo Legion 7i Pro on the B&H website. You get an i9 with a 4090 for $2,400. That’s $900 off its retail price of $3,300 . It also gets the highest frames in games on laptops currently. But you get an ips display and alright speakers. Nothing wrong with that but it’s just “mid”. Considering it’ll be used as a desktop setup you should be fine by just upgrading to good desk speakers and a good secondary monitor. Another pricy but fire option is the ROG Strix Scar 16. But again if you want an all in one package? G16 bro
