I finally made my choice

I’ve spent the last month thinking about which gaming/productivity laptop to buy… I narrowed it down to the G16 with the 4070 AMD processor (2024) or the Legion 7i with the 4060 (2024)…

The G16 was priced at 1800usd (on sale open box)… The Legion 7i was at 960usd (also on sale open box)… I upgraded the RAM and SSD to match the G16’s specs…

I had both of these laptops with the plan to return one after testing them out… In the end, I decided on the Legion 7i… Surprisingly, the performance of the Legion 7i 4060 was almost the same as the 4070 G16 (I think it might be because of the size and power output of the chassis)…

I’ve been using Asus for years and was leaning towards the G16 because it had a better display, speakers, and battery life (both had similar build quality, but the slim design of the G16 was a nice touch)… Still, with a nearly 1k price gap, I couldn’t pass up how good the 7i is and I’ve been really enjoying it.

The G16 was priced at 1800usd (on sale open box) and the Legion 7i was at 960usd (also on sale open box)

That price difference would have made my choice super easy.

Haha for sure! I definitely felt a bit of FOMO with the G16.

What about the keyboard? Did you prefer one over the other?

I definitely liked the G16’s keyboard positioning more. The offset layout took some getting used to. They both type well but feel a bit different… The G16 is louder with less travel, but I preferred the feel of the 7i. It just felt higher quality.

Nice :+1:

Legion 7 is seriously one of the best built gaming laptops at 16 inches.

I totally agree. That’s why I got one. I paid $2100 for the Legion 7 Pro from B&H. It’s a monster.

The Legion is definitely a solid laptop, and at that price difference, I would have gone with the Legion too.

What wallpaper are you using?

I heard it’s not a regular size m.2 SSD, if that’s the case, I’m not interested.

I’m not certain about that. I didn’t touch the original SSD, but I installed my Samsung Evo 1TB SSD in the second slot without any issues.

@Leslie
Did the installed one look smaller? I saw a video with this type MP600 MICRO 1TB PCIe 4.0 (Gen4) x4 NVMe M.2 2242 SSD | CORSAIR

@Shawn
No, the pre-installed one was definitely a 2280.

I saw a video that showed a smaller one, but I guess that’s not the case. I want a laptop that can hold 2 m.2 drives and a 2.5-inch SSD.

Check it out! It has two 2280 slots, one on each side.

What about the Lenovo LOQ?

@Shawn
For 2024, there’s one that has a 2242 which might be what you’re thinking of…

The one the person who posted this has is a 7i 2024, the higher tier model.
