I just got my first gaming laptop, and I'm pretty disappointed 😔

I bought the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s-72R8) with an RTX 3070Ti 115W, i7-12700H, and 16GB RAM. The laptop looks great, and the display is fantastic, but I’m disappointed with its performance.

I tested some games, and while League of Legends ran pretty well and GTA 5 did too, I had issues with Elden Ring on High/Medium settings at QHD. After about 5 minutes, the FPS dropped to 20-30, and everything became laggy. Even when I tabbed out, the laptop was laggy overall.

What surprised me was the performance in Fortnite with DirectX 12. It was super laggy right from the start, and then the laptop crashed with a blue screen. The gaming temperatures were around 92-93°C for the CPU and 83-90°C for the GPU.

I’m considering sending it back, but if anyone has any suggestions on what I could try to improve it, I’d appreciate it!

I don’t mean this as a joke or insult, but is the dedicated graphics card on? My brother has a similar laptop with a 3070, and he can run Elden Ring just fine.

Still, I would consider sending it back.

I thought of that at first too, so I went into the settings and manually set it to always use the GPU.

Yeah, I think returning it is the best option. Good luck with your next laptop!

A’ight, thank you brother

Yeah, without the dedicated graphics card, I doubt they’d even hit 20 FPS on Elden Ring, especially at 1440p. It sounds like the laptop only started throttling after a few minutes, which might indicate thermal issues or a power management problem.

Exactly, games like League of Legends could still be playable without the dedicated GPU, but definitely not Elden Ring, especially at higher settings and 1440p resolution. Elden Ring is pretty demanding, so it’s understandable that it would struggle without proper GPU power. Sounds like something else is going on if it only throttles after a bit.
