Looking to get a new gaming laptop and debating between these two, 4080 or 4090. Yes, I understand that it is “only $449 more” for the 4090, but as someone who wasn’t expecting to have to buy a new laptop all of the sudden $449 is a significant amount of money and any lower cost really helps.
I would rather purchase one of these than a budget laptop, as I want something that is going to be able to last me for years to come without issues. NOTE: I don’t game an insane amount. I want to be able to play games like Genshin, HSR, WUWA, RDR, etc. without any problems. Insane graphics really is not a priority for me, the laptop I’m coming from was a 16GB 1TB 2070 which was perfectly fine for me. Didn’t use up the storage and the graphics never bothered me they were great. I know many games now are not running well with lower graphics though… so that’s why I’m looking at these two in the hopes they would last me.
Could someone please explain which of these is the best to purchase and why? If you have a different recommendation, for what I have mentioned, please let me know. I am planning for this to be my one and only laptop for hopefully at least 5+ years.

I have also heard people say it’s better to buy the 7i than the Pro 7i, but then also heard that the 7i often experiences performance drops.
I have the 4090 version of this laptop you posted. It’s a beast of a machine. However, in my opinion, the extra $450 for performance isn’t worth it. I think you would be happy with either, given the games you listed. The 4080 is very capable and should last you.
I just bought the 4080 and am more than happy with it. I’ve played the newest COD, Rocket League, No Man’s Sky, all with no issues and at the highest settings.
If you don’t play games that often and graphics aren’t a priority, then the less expensive option seems like the clear choice. Plus, the 4080 can handle most games in ultra settings without any issues.

I have the Pro 7i with a 4090 and based on your requirements, you don’t need it. Unless you’re into VR, it might be overkill. Save the cash.
How’s the display and backlight bleed? I’m considering the 9i for the mini LED display.

If you don’t frequently play graphics-intensive games and don’t utilize the VRAM, the 4080 is a good choice. But if you think you might need it in the future, consider the 4090, as it’s unlikely you will upgrade every year.
