I’m torn between the Lenovo Legion i7 and the Zephyrus G16. The Lenovo’s all-white design really appeals to me. However, I’m unsure about missing out on the OLED screen offered by other models. Can anyone share how significant the difference is between OLED and IPS screens on laptops? What are your thoughts?
I switched to a laptop with an OLED display a few years back and I haven’t looked back since. It’s unfortunate that many great laptops are now using miniLED instead.

I’m quite happy with my QHD screen although I recognize how superior OLED can be. I’m just worried that whenever I upgrade, I’ll be disappointed if it doesn’t meet the OLED standard.
OLED significantly enhances the visual experience. As someone who owns a G14, the quality of an OLED display is hard to match.
Yes, OLED is definitely worth it! It was love at first sight for me.
The value of OLED is subjective, but for me, it’s been the single most impactful upgrade. I’ve seen more noticeable benefits from switching to OLED than from upgrading from a 3070 to a 4080 GPU, despite the huge leap in performance.
It felt like getting a new GPU when I switched to OLED on my desktop and steam deck.
I have an OLED desktop monitor and a Legion Slim 7i, which has a similar screen to the 7i you’re considering. The 7i’s screen is still great, particularly for bright environments and colorful content, but OLED definitely excels in darker scenes with its true black capabilities.
OLED is indeed a worthwhile investment, especially after upgrading performance parts. It makes a substantial difference in the overall impact.
One advantage of OLED over IPS is its responsiveness, making it superior for fast-paced games.
I enjoy OLED, I have an OLED monitor and while it’s nice, the IPS on my laptop doesn’t feel that different to me.
I chose the Legion 9i over the G16 even though OLED screens are generally superior. The G16 has limitations in terms of GPU power and processor performance, but offers better battery life.

I’ve read similar reviews. It’s disappointing that the Zephyrus with the 4090 overheats and doesn’t utilize full GPU power, which deterred me from purchasing it.
OLED is nice but think about whether it’s something you’ll value enough to justify the cost.
If your budget is over $1500, I’d say OLED is a no-brainer. However, I prioritized a cooler system over top-end performance, choosing a 4070 over a 4080. The OLED’s superior color and brightness more significantly affect visual quality than the graphics card itself.
OLED is definitely a game-changer for competitive gaming. I’m currently looking at laptops with at least 165hz displays.
As an owner of the Zephyrus G16 with a 4090, I think it’s worth considering whether you’re okay with a performance trade-off for the OLED screen. The smaller, lighter design of the G16 is a plus, but the Legion offers more power.
In my opinion, an OLED screen is a more significant upgrade than a GPU. I’d choose an OLED with a 4060 over a non-OLED 4070 and would pay extra for it.
If you’ve experienced AMOLED on phones, you’ll have a good basis for comparison with IPS. OLED can be transformative, akin to moving from 60hz to 144hz screens.
I’ve noticed OLED displays show less washed-out colors and more controlled white levels, although they might not be as bright as some IPS screens.
