Is this overkill for a casual gamer's first laptop?

I’ve never had a gaming laptop before and am getting a bit overwhelmed with all of the options available and my limited knowledge. I want something that’s going to last and be able to run new games for years to come. I’m always one to go a little overboard when I get into new hobbies, so just looking for a little advice before making a big purchase like this. TIA

B&H has a sale on this specific one for around $2499, I think.

Good looking out! Do you have any experience with Lenovo’s extended warranty?

Be careful with B&H’s return policy. Once you open the box, that laptop is yours, and you won’t be able to return it. Over $3k is too much for this laptop, in my opinion. Waiting for the 50-series might be a better idea if you’re spending that much.

Damn, what’s even the point of a return policy at that point?

I don’t know. Luckily, I was informed about this and read their return policy, which says you can return unopened electronics, but once you break the seal, you void the policy. They will accept returns on opened electronics if they’re proven defective, but I’d rather not go through the hassle of determining what I think is a defect vs what they consider it to be. Luckily, I had a Microcenter nearby that was selling the laptop for around the same price, so I just went there. I had to exchange my laptop due to severe thermal issues.

Not personally; I’m actually in the same boat as you. I want to get my first gaming laptop, and I’ve been eyeing that one for a bit. I have a problem with buyer’s remorse, though.

Here’s the link: Lenovo Legion Pro 7.

Ooo fancy pants, rich McGee over here :triumph:.

Yes, for casual gaming, a 4050-4060 is enough.

Yeah, my advice would be to go for the 4060, but that’s only because there’s usually not much of a price increase, and it should last a little longer.

Some people call it overkill, but I call it future-proof!

Exactly my thoughts.

I’m very happy with my Legion 5 Pro with a 4070. The only thing I’ve changed is the WiFi card from the subpar Realtek to an Intel card. The build quality on Legion laptops is great; I had no issues removing the back panel twice without breaking anything.

I would say yes, but it will last a decent amount of time. Its specs are pretty great.

If it’s in your budget, get it! It will easily last you 7 years or more. Check if it supports Gen 5 SSDs and how many SSD slots are available, as you will need more storage if you want to use it for years.

@Chen
Unless it dies.

Not really, considering how badly optimized 2025 AAA games are. This is a good choice. Check out Lenovo Legion’s latest gaming laptop with the 4090.

Get a cooler too and replace the thermal paste every 6 months.

If you can afford it without issues, get it.

It’s not, mate; I guess it’s just the beginning .
