My Legion was pretty solid right from the start. Remove McAfee, update your drivers with Vantage, and update your GPU drivers with the Nvidia app. Consider undervolting if you’re comfortable. Some also recommend the Legion Toolkit, though Vantage works fine for most needs. It’s surprising you still can’t set custom fan curves with Synapse in 2025. Enjoy your new setup!
@Sage
Maybe I’m missing something, but how do you undervolt these? I have a 7i Gen 9 and can’t figure it out.
@Sage
Is a clean Windows reinstall required?
I didn’t bother with a reinstall and still achieved great performance, scoring 13k/19k on Time Spy with mild undervolting and overclocking.
@Sage
Thanks for the advice!
@Sage
Did you also uninstall Legion Arena?
A good first step is to look up ‘Lenovo Legion gaming laptop setup tips’ on YouTube.
Get ready, it’s going to be a long night of setup and updates!
Update all your drivers and Windows itself, uninstall any bloatware like Nahimic and McAfee. Most importantly, turn on Conservation Mode if you plan to keep it plugged in most of the time—this is crucial for maintaining your battery health.
First, uninstall any pre-installed antivirus software. Inside Lenovo Vantage, enable ‘Conservation Mode’ to limit battery charge to 75-80% when plugged in. Don’t forget to customize your RGB lighting for optimal gaming ambiance.

Thanks for the tip!
First, give yourself a pat on the back for getting a new gaming laptop. Then, spend a few minutes celebrating—maybe dance around a bit! After that, check out some games you want to try and plan your purchases, whether you want to support the developers directly or wait for sales.

Will do, thanks for the suggestion!
Make sure the laptop arrived in good condition without any serious damage. Verify that all specs match what’s listed on the product page. Uninstall any bloatware like McAfee antivirus. Update your CPU and GPU drivers with the Nvidia App and Intel Assistant. Consider running a stress test with software like Cinebench to see how your laptop handles it. Set your battery charge limit to help prolong its life. Lastly, install your favorite gaming platforms like Steam or Epic Games Launcher. If you prefer a classic interface, consider Open-Shell and ExplorerPatcher to customize your taskbar.
