Need help deciding please

Hello all, not new to PC gaming but haven’t gamed on PC in 23 years… :sweat_smile: Plenty of console gaming in between though. I want to re-enter the PC world to play Starcraft, OG Warcraft 3, and also be ready for new games. After much research, I’m struggling to determine what’s good vs overkill. Intel vs AMD, 4060 vs 4070, etc. I just want to game! I’ve narrowed it down to a few setups, and my question is: Is 64GB of RAM overkill right now? How valuable would 32GB be over 16GB? If I have to go Intel, would an i7 be enough or should I go for an i9? I can get a Lenovo or Dell with a 4060 and 16GB-32GB RAM for around $1600-$1800, typically with an i7. Or, I can go for an Alienware M16 with an i9, 64GB RAM, and 4070 for $2300. What would you do? Any input or alternatives to look into?

Lenovo is popular, and with a 4070, it will be enough. For the CPU, something like the 14700HX would be good. You can undervolt it to reduce temps by a few degrees. However, Ryzen 7 or 9 will also be decent. As for RAM, you can swap it yourself—just remove the old and buy a 2x16GB kit.

32GB is good, NEVER BUY DELL, CPU is somewhat irrelevant… AMD is better, i7 is fine. The GPU and screen are the most important. Lenovo Legion laptops are great; I’ve had two and they’ve been fantastic.

@Hadi
When you say GPU and screen are the most important, are you saying the video card doesn’t matter? I ask because I’ve been told the video card is one of the most important components, and the GPU numbers confuse me. How do I determine what’s ‘better’?
