I’m contemplating whether to wait for the upcoming 5000 series laptops or to capitalize on current deals for 4080 or 4090 models. What would be the smarter move in terms of technology and value?
It boils down to whether you prefer to wait and possibly pay more, or grab a deal now and save some cash.

I purchased a G18 4070 last September for under $2k and it’s been fantastic for my needs.
@Marin
Same here, I got a 4080 Legion for $2500 CAD and it’s been great.
The deals you’re seeing on the 4080 and 4090 models now are likely the best you’ll get. Once they’re sold out, that’s it.
Consider looking for a used 4090 on eBay auctions; you might find a great deal.

In my experience, eBay hasn’t had the best prices. I find better deals locally on Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp, especially here in the Bay Area.
@Peyton
Seasons can affect prices, too. I snagged my current laptop on eBay for $2200, so it varies.
It’s tough to decide. The 4080 has been solid for price-performance for two years and should continue to perform well. If you’re considering a big laptop, the current options are compelling due to the availability of OLED screens. However, if screen size and the latest tech are your priorities, waiting for the 5000 series could be smarter.
It seems the 4000 series is running out fast. I noticed a couple of sites already marking them as sold out or with long wait times.
Just a heads up, if you’re going for models with liquid metal cooling, be prepared for yearly maintenance.
It might be wise to wait for the 5000 series benchmarks to be released before making a decision. That way, you can make a more informed choice based on the latest data.
