Comparing Acer Nitro V15 and HP Victus with i5 13420H and RTX 4050 6GB (75W TGP).
V15 has 1× 16GB DDR5 RAM, while the Victus has 2× 8GB DDR4 RAM (2 slots).
Which would be better for gaming and some studies?

The V15 will likely last longer.

Is that because of the single 16GB RAM stick? Or are there other reasons?

Not just the RAM. The V15 has better build quality overall. Victus has known issues that can lead to costly repairs. The V15 isn’t perfect, but it’s more reliable for long-term use.
@Amory
What if I could get an i7 12650H with the RTX 4050, 2×8GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD on the HP Victus for only $50 more? Worth it?

The i7 is better, but for gaming alone, you won’t see a huge difference between the two CPUs.
@Amory
What issues does the Victus have that would require repairs?

The Victus can be opened and closed with one hand, unlike the V15 which feels more like a standard laptop.

If you’re currently using the V15, could you review it? Especially if the 75W TGP of the 4050 is worth it.

This review should help you decide: https://www.unboxparadigm.com/post/acer-nitro-v-anv15-51-2023-full-review-best-gaming-laptop-under-rs-75-000. Also, the 75W 4050 performs nearly as well as a fully powered 4050 (only about a 5-6% difference), plus it has DLSS 3 and frame generation support.
Go with the Nitro. It has better software and faster RAM. You can always add another 16GB RAM stick.
As for the Victus, people exaggerate its build quality issues. It’s not the best, but it won’t just fall apart after a year or two.
Nitro is better. Neither has premium build quality, but HP is usually worse. The Victus hinge will likely break after 1-2 years.
HP Victus.

Can I ask why? Let’s ignore the RAM difference—what else makes the Victus better?

Better cooling.

The fans on the Nitro are too loud.
