Which one should I go for?

I’d recommend the Legion. I own two models: a Legion 7 Pro (Ryzen 9, RTX 4080, 64GB RAM, 2TB storage) and a Legion 5 Pro (Ryzen 7, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage). My advice is, once you find a gaming laptop you love, invest in a good backpack and a protective sleeve for the laptop. This will keep it safe from scratches and damage. If you find a Legion with a 4070, I would definitely go for that; it’s a solid machine for gaming and video editing.

@Adair
I found a 4070 version for $1299.

@Adair
I had the Legion 7i Pro with the Intel chip and the 4090 when they first came out, but I experienced some heat issues. I mainly play Star Citizen and do video editing with DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere. It was a good machine, but you really need a cooling pad during intensive use. For my current 4080, I use a cooling pad just to be safe, but the 4070 doesn’t seem to need it.

Go with the Legion. Buying a laptop with poor build quality just for a slight performance increase over the 4060 isn’t worth it.

I have a TUF with a mobile 3050, and while the GPU is a pain sometimes, once you get used to the Armoury Crate software, the laptop is really easy to use. I’ve had it for 2 years and never had an issue. Plus, the 4060 is considered a low-budget GPU, while the 4070 is mid-range. I’d rather have a GPU that supports ray tracing and can last on battery for 8 hours than settle for a Legion.

@Galen
You’re still new to using a TUF. Just wait; your TUF won’t be the best choice after a while. Plus, you don’t seem to know the difference in performance between a 4060 and a 4070, or much about gaming laptop battery life, so maybe keep your opinions to yourself until you know more.

Have you ever owned a TUF? How do you know how good they are?

@Harley
I’ve collectively owned 6 of them between mine and friends’ laptops.

The Legion Pro is only $50 more than what I paid for the Legion Slim a couple of days ago, which is a great price if you want to avoid the hassle of fluctuating prices until Black Friday. I keep hearing that build quality is a big reason to choose Lenovo.

@Arlen
Is the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 also known for good build quality?

Since the Legion Slim 5 was at the top of my budget, I spent a lot of time researching what sacrifices I would have to make by choosing the Slim 5 over the Slim 7 or the Pro. Most reviews I found praised the build quality of the Legion Slim 5.

@Arlen
What conclusion did you reach about the sacrifices compared to the other models? Or is there no sacrifice at all?

Since I’m waiting for mine to arrive, I can’t comment on how sturdy it feels. I suspect the battery life won’t be great, which means I’ll likely keep it plugged in at home. I worry about it getting bumped around a bit. I haven’t heard any major complaints about reliability, aside from a few isolated cases.

@Arlen
I have an offer for $1000 on a Legion.

Where did you find this deal?

Honestly, I suggest looking for different laptops. An RTX 4060 won’t give you a good experience with 2K monitors, while the 4070 is overkill for FHD. I recommend waiting for Black Friday, which is in 2-3 weeks. Try to get the Legion with a 4070; it’s the best option.

@Kai
The 4070 Legion costs $300 more.

@Kai
I think a 4060 for $999 and a 4070 for $1299 isn’t worth it.

I’d go for the TUF.
