Will AMD RX 8000 Series GPUs for laptops in 2025 have better price-to-performance compared to Nvidia RTX 40/50 series?

In all honesty, the current Nvidia RTX 40 series GPUs seem overrated when comparing their price-to-performance ratio. Ray tracing has been overhyped, and the 8GB limit on many 40-series cards doesn’t feel futureproof.

The AMD RX 7700 XT, for example, offers up to 12GB of VRAM, and its FSR technology isn’t bad at all. So, my question is: Will AMD’s RX 8000 series in 2025 bring more laptops with AMD GPUs and better value compared to Nvidia’s RTX 40 and 50 series?

Lemme call up the CEO and ask.

If you could, why not? These Nvidia prices are ridiculous. It’s barely a performance increase every year, and gamers are just suffering.

It’s up to consumers to stop buying. Why would Nvidia lower prices if people keep buying? They aren’t running a charity.

It’s not overpriced if people are buying it.

AMD might offer a better price-to-performance ratio, but availability will likely remain an issue. AMD doesn’t have the production capacity to supply as many chips as Nvidia.

It’s frustrating how Nvidia dominates with overpriced GPUs that offer minimal performance increases. I hope we see more AMD GPU laptops in 2025.

@Shan
I feel you. I have a G15 with the 6800M and wanted to upgrade this year, but AMD’s laptop GPU options are so limited. I ended up building a desktop instead. AMD needs to step up in the laptop market.

@Reeve
You’re right. AMD announced the 7800M only two months ago, even though the 7000 series was expected in 2023. They’re always late, and Nvidia fills the gap by default.

True, but their delay saved me money. Instead of spending $2,000 on a laptop, I built a desktop with a 6900XT for much less.

It’s hard to say for sure. Wait for announcements at CES, but we won’t know until the products actually release.

I get that. Maybe I’ll find an AMD insider to drop some leaks anonymously here, lol.

I hope so. The 7700 series has been solid, and AMD Advantage laptops are pretty good overall.

I’d rather have Nvidia’s frame generation and better drivers. AMD’s drivers have given me nothing but problems in the past.

Are there any articles detailing these driver issues? I’d like to learn more.

@Hollis
It’s just my personal experience. My AMD card never worked properly from the day I bought it until I upgraded.

That’s unfortunate. I’m on the fence about AMD. If I could find more details, it might help me decide.

@Hollis
On the flip side, I’ve had no issues with my 7800XT. I’ve actually had more driver problems with Nvidia than AMD.

What 8GB limit are you talking about? Plenty of 40-series cards have more than 8GB.
