Steal or a deal?
I saw a guy got the white one with a 4080 for 1k less, I would totally have done that over 1k more for a 4090
@Zadie
Compared to what I spent on my Galaxy Book3 Ultra, deal, what it is vs retail, steal. And the 4090/4080 were similar but had different storage and GPU along with condition (you got an excellent the other post was good but you do not know what good really is (could be scratched and scuffed))
@Zadie
Bro in 2020 I spent $3500k aud on an infinity (Australian version of XMG) with a 10th gen and 2070S 1080p 240hz… Then 3 months later they announced the 30series versions with ryzen CPUs and 1440p displays for the exact same price
That was the one time Australia got the most current gen mobile GPU’s at the same time the rest of the world did. I thought it wasn’t going to be for another 12 months.
Now I see you US guys grabbing 4090’s for less than that’s equivalent makes me cry so much.
@Zadie

How on earth does everyone find these deals all the time but when I look there is hardly anything taken off?

“Open-box” AKA “Returned” items, you roll the dice on these hoping the previous owner returned it for no serious reason…
@Reese
Yeah, I’ve seen the open box and things but never at a discount that others find. Maybe I just have bad timing.

So… the crazy price tag on the original item versus the huge reduction for it being an open-box got me thinking. What if someone buys this laptop new, returned it and got a full refund, then bought it again for its open-box price? Or maybe just have someone else do the purchase instead. Is this a loophole or are there ways to countermeasure customers taking advantage of situations like this?
@Ainsley
Yes, it’s certainly possible. However, open-box prices generally decrease gradually, often every couple of weeks, until the item sells, so it takes time for the price to drop significantly. For instance, if someone buys a Razer Blade on its release date and returns it the next day, the open-box price might only be about 5% less than the new price, not anywhere close to a 50% discount. You only see those deeper open-box discounts when a product has reached end-of-life (EOL) and is no longer available as new.
