Good, Bad, or Just Okay?

This laptop is within my $1,000 budget (including tax). Any opinions before I buy it?

Not great. The build quality isn’t good.

Any other suggestions, then?

In that price range? I’d suggest looking for a Lenovo Legion or a more budget-friendly ASUS TUF or Lenovo LOQ with a 4060 GPU.

If you’re lucky enough to live near a Micro Center, check them out—they often have great deals.

The Acer Nitro isn’t a good choice. Here’s why:

  • Poor build quality: It uses cheap plastic and has a weak frame.
  • Bad cooling system: It has a very low TDP for both the CPU and GPU, which means it’s underpowered and prone to thermal throttling. Some Nitro models with an RTX 4060 perform worse than other brands with an RTX 4050 because of this. They use a weak cooling system to cover it up.
  • Low-quality screen: The 15.6" screen is already small, but the Nitro’s display is also cheap and poor quality.
  • Intel 13th Gen: This is already a red flag for some people.
  • Small SSD: A 512GB SSD in 2024 is a joke—you’ll probably need to buy another SSD and upgrade right away, and I’m not even sure if it has a second slot.

Upd: I checked the specs.

  • Up to 75W for the RTX 4060—really underpowered.
  • 45% NTSC color gamut. This is terrible; only the cheapest screens have this.

DO NOT BUY IT.

Personally, I don’t like AMD video cards because their drivers aren’t great. But since Nvidia’s mobile 40 series isn’t that impressive, this laptop is fine. It’s an okay choice. :+1:

The build quality is meh, and the screen isn’t great (other options have better screens). Plus, the GPU is only 75W, while other options have full-powered GPUs.
