Just turned it on this morning, and the computer was very slow; couldn’t even open the browser. It’s updating now but it’s been doing that since 3pm (almost 6 hours). It’s the Lenovo 50-70 with GTX 860m GPU. What should I update for this laptop to work properly?
A fresh Windows installation might be quicker, probably taking less than an hour to get up and running. Too many updates at once might even harm the system.

Oh no, it’s too late now, it’s in the middle of updating. Do you mean just reinstall Windows?
@Avery
Yes, a reinstall would be best, especially if you don’t have important data to lose or it’s already backed up. Otherwise, you’ll need to wait for it to finish updating.

Oh yeah, but mine is cuter
I’m surprised there are laptops with lower specs than my 960m. The best upgrade would be to add dual channel RAM and switch to an SSD if you plan on actually using this laptop.
You should shut it down - that hardware isn’t great for gaming anymore. But seriously, check if it can run Windows 11.

Honestly, I doubt you had top-tier gaming in mind. You could still run older games fine with some settings tweaks, but newer ones will struggle. If a full upgrade isn’t feasible, updating Windows, increasing RAM to 16GB, and adding a SATA SSD are good stop-gap measures.
@Avery
Enjoy the games as long as it runs them! Don’t let anyone’s comments stop you. Even a 2060 rig gets criticism for not running games on ultra settings.

Sadly, they were right. Just 5 minutes after taking that picture, my PC reset, and then it couldn’t run the game anymore. I had to lower the resolution to get 100 fps, which still dropped to 15 fps occasionally. I’m planning to buy a new $499 HP laptop from Best Buy tomorrow.
@Avery
Can you share a link to that HP laptop to see if it’s worth it?
You should update the Realtek reader and printer drivers if you have any connected.
Turn it off and use a USB to install Windows again.
Update everything.
Time to update the whole laptop

No, it has an SSD; it’s not that old.

Have you checked the health of the SSD? After such a long time not being powered, the SSD could be severely degraded.
