I’m torn between two laptops and could use some advice.
One has 8GB of RAM, but I have an extra 8GB that I plan to install. The other is more expensive but has better specs. What do you think?

It’s probably best to do your own research. This forum tends to heavily favor one brand over others, which might skew the opinions you get here.

I thought this was a real subreddit for a second!

It’s because those laptops generally offer higher build quality than their competitors at the same price point. They’re not the absolute best, but it’s hard to justify spending an extra $1000 for a slight increase in build quality when the performance is comparable.
Lenovo Legion generally has better construction.

Get the one with the 4080 GPU. It’s much faster and more future-proof.

That’s true, but is the better construction worth choosing a 4070 over a 4080?

I have the 4080 laptop model. It’s great value since it performs well, though it does get hot under load. I use an external fan to help with the thermals.

I’m using an MSI Sword model, and the build quality is top-notch. I’d go with MSI.

If you don’t need 16GB of VRAM, then the better construction might not be worth it.
@Thayer
But doesn’t lower build quality increase the risk of damage? And what about the cooling system?

Cooling is definitely a consideration, but you’ll need to handle it more carefully. Legions are high quality but beware of models like the Legion Slims, which are prone to overheating.
Choose MSI. It has 4 GB more VRAM and the GPU performance is about 50% better in games.
Do some research online. Look up benchmarks, thermal performance, design, number of ports, integrated software, etc. You can even watch videos of people disassembling the laptops to see which has better construction and cooling system. For me, it’s the Legion because MSI is known for poor hinge quality.
I have the Legion 5i Pro 24 edition and I prefer it over my old MSI laptop because it’s lighter and performs well for the price. Also, a 4080 GPU in a laptop might be overkill unless you’re into heavy gaming or professional work.
Definitely go with the MSI.
Lots of mixed responses here, lol.
If you’re concerned about thermal performance, try looking up YouTube videos that test the performance or even teardown videos of the models.
MSI is not reliable in my experience.
I had the Vector, which was metal but had horrible hinges. I returned it and bought the Asus ROG Strix G16, which has the same specs but better build quality. I’m very happy with it now, and even upgraded to 96GB RAM.
