How bad is the 4060 really?

I’m looking to upgrade my laptop, and the best options available here in Turkey all come with RTX 4060 GPUs paired with either 16GB or 32GB RAM and 512GB or 1TB SSDs, along with various CPUs. I’ve been seeing a lot of negative opinions about the 4060, especially with the recent buzz around new Intel GPUs. The thing is, practically all laptops here use Nvidia GPUs. Is the 4060 as bad as people say, or is it a solid option for laptops?

Most of the criticism you’re seeing is probably about the desktop 4060. For laptops, the 4060 is usually one of the better value GPUs available.

That makes sense. People tend to overlook laptops when discussing GPU specs.

@Raine
If you can get it for under $899, it’s a decent buy. Otherwise, it might not be worth it.

In Turkey, we pay nearly double the dollar-to-lira conversion, so getting it for that price is impossible.

@Raine
That’s rough. My condolences for those taxes.

Thanks. It works out as you said though—around $900 becomes 31k TRY, and systems here with the 4060 are about 50k after taxes.

The 4060 itself is fine. The complaints are mostly about its pricing compared to its performance.

For desktops, the 4060 is a bad deal. For laptops, it’s one of the best GPUs in terms of price-to-performance.

If the desktop 4060 were priced at $200 or $150, would it still be considered bad?

@Sawyer
Not at all.

The 4060 is great for laptops, especially in ultrabook gaming models like the G16 or Legion 5 14. It offers a solid balance of performance and efficiency for 1080p or even 1440p gaming.

The main issue is price-to-performance ratio. For laptops, the 4060 is fine, but the desktop version is overpriced compared to other GPUs in the same range.

I’ve heard some people say the desktop 3060 is better than the 4060. Is that true?

@Rowan
Not really. The 4060 is about 15–20% faster overall. The 3060 desktop version might have an edge in specific scenarios due to its higher VRAM and wider memory bus, but the 4060 has newer features like DLSS 3, which makes it better overall.

On desktops, the 4060 is a poor choice. On laptops, the 4070 is considered less of a value, but the 4060 is fine.

Why is the 4070 bad on laptops? I just got one with a Ryzen 7 and 4070, and it seems pretty great.

@Peyton
It’s about the price difference. The 4070 is only 10–15% faster than the 4060 but costs significantly more, making the 4060 the better value for most users.

I got a 4060 laptop a few months back, and it’s been great. It’s more than capable for most games at 1080p and even 1440p.

The 4060 is a good all-around GPU for laptops. The only real jump in performance comes when moving up to the 4080, as both the 4060 and 4070 have 8GB of VRAM.
