Is a Nuclear Football Laptop Possible?

This… is interesting to say the least. I suppose it’s also a valuable insight on how the components are laid out outside of its original shell. I just saw this and initially was intrigued by the specs. I’m especially curious to hear an explanation on what’s going on and how it’s been built. Also, this should qualify as a gaming laptop, right? Albeit a little post apocalyptic.

This is how you’ll find me playing video games after a hypothetical world war.

Or given current global tensions, maybe even sooner.

Here’s the setup:

  • The laptop’s motherboard is external.
  • There’s a custom water cooling system for the CPU and GPU.
  • A separate PSU powers the motherboard and the cooling system’s pump and fans.
  • It includes additional USB hubs for more connectivity.

However, not having a heatsink for the VRMs is an oversight. Laptop VRMs are not robust, and even with good airflow, this setup isn’t ideal.

@Axel
The next iteration will include improved airflow over the motherboard.

Imagine trying to get this through airport security. It looks like something out of a spy movie.

It’s a cyberdeck! Post it in a cyberdeck community forum.

What?

If you’re into this sort of DIY project, there are online communities dedicated to cyberdeck creations.

This takes me back to the early 2000s when PC modding was all the rage. Why dismantle a perfectly good laptop to build this case?

Why not? It makes the setup far more interesting this way.

@Blair
It now functions worse than it did as a laptop. Seems quite pointless.

Actually, I bought the motherboard on eBay for 100 euros, so no original laptop was harmed for this project.

Shall we play a game?

Looks like something out of Fallout 3.

Exactly!

What on earth is this?

A gaming cyberdeck in action.

Essentially, this is a custom PC build.

Reminds me of the improvised tech from the movie where Tony Stark builds an arc reactor in a cave.
