Is Screen Response Time Crucial for Gaming Laptops?

As the title suggests, how important is screen response time when choosing between two gaming laptops with similar specifications (or at least within the same budget)?

I’m deciding btn the Nitro V 16 and the LOQ 15 2024. Both have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, but the Nitro V 16 boasts a much better response time of around 7ms, while the LOQ 15 has a considerably higher response time, reportedly up to 50ms according to Notebookcheck reviews.

I realize that response time might vary depending on the games you play, & I’m planning to play titles like Rainbow Six and Warzone.

should I opt for the Nitro V 16? It has a superior CPU (Ryzen 7 8845HS vs. Intel i5-13450HX) & a better screen. However the LOQ 15 has a better reputation in the community and superior software.

It really depends on the panel you choose within the same model family. 144Hz panels have poorer response times, whereas the 165Hz panel, even on the LOQ, has better specs for response time.

whether slow response times are an issue can depend on the types of games you play. For example, if you’re not into FPS games, a higher response time might not be as critical.

I plan to play FPS games like Warzone and Siege, but aside from that, I don’t play many other fast-paced games. The 144Hz panel is an option, but if I choose the 165Hz panel, it costs the same but comes with a 4050 GPU instead.

If build quality is important to you, the Lenovo is the better choice—it has a metal plate and is built more sturdily than the Acer Nitro V. From what my close friends, who own AMD-powered laptops, have experienced, AMD CPUs can degrade in performance over time, and AMD laptops often have poor battery life due to their power output limitations. While the Acer’s Ryzen 9 is more powerful than the 13450HX, Lenovo offers a 100% sRGB panel, which the Acer lacks. Although the response time differences might be noticeable, a human eye generally won’t detect the difference between 7 milliseconds and 50 milliseconds during gaming.

If I had to choose between the two, I’d go with the Intel processor model. Both laptops have a 4060 GPU, but I value better battery life and color accuracy.

Thanks for the input. It seems response time isn’t a major issue unless you’re playing fast-action games or competitive FPS titles like CS:GO (does Siege count?). I’m leaning towards the Lenovo, as they generally offer better customer support. I’ll just need to add another stick of RAM since the LOQ comes with only 8GB

Yup, response time isn’t a major concern unless you’re competing in events or tournaments. U made a smart choice :100:

Yes, the LOQ display is quite slow, even more so than the Victus and TUF, which are also on the slower side. There’s a reason why the LOQ is priced lower than the Legion.
