Just Got a New Laptop!

Just purchased a Predator Helios 18" and I’m in love.

Before this, I had just recently got a Alienware m16 r1 with a 4080. It was such a a beauty and I loved it, but I had so many issues with it. Decided to return it and pick this up on sale for $2600. Definitely worth it. The miniLED screen is so incredibly beautiful and surprisingly super bright.

What issues did you face with the r1? I’m considering getting one.

I actually bought two last month. One had overheating problems, and both had graphical glitches. The first laptop would hit around 100C even with a cooling pad. The second didn’t overheat but had occasional screen flickering. I tried fresh OS installs and updating drivers, but it didn’t fix the issues. Aside from that, they were powerful, handled every game well, and looked great. Hope you have better luck than I did!

Did you try limiting the CPU voltage to 1.4V to solve the issues?

I did limit the voltage on the first laptop, but it still overheated badly. I returned it and got another one which didn’t overheat at all, even without any tweaks.

I’m thinking about the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 with an RTX 4070. Is it good for AAA games on high settings? It’s my first laptop, and my budget is about $1700. Are there better options at this price?

Thanks for the advice! I’ve researched a lot and the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 seems like the best value for my budget. Going to go with that.

Such a beauty of a laptop!

It really is stunning in person. I absolutely love it!

Are you powering both monitors from the laptop, or do you have a separate PC setup?

Both monitors are connected to the laptop via a USB-C dock. It handles them perfectly, no issues.
