My father tried to surprise me for my 1st year in college

My father barely knows anything about technology, but he knew how much I love tinkering with devices and gaming. He bought this gaming laptop on sale to surprise me for Christmas. Unfortunately, the order was delayed and didn’t arrive today as planned, but I really appreciate the thought he put into this gift.

That’s a good dad.

That’s a great laptop! I suggest upgrading the RAM to 16GB and possibly increasing the storage, as 512GB may not be enough for modern games. It’s wonderful to see a parent make such a thoughtful effort. Just keep in mind this model might not last long on battery.

@Zeek
Is the battery life still terrible on these? My friend’s Nitro 5 with an i7 10th gen lasts less than an hour.

Optimizing power settings and reducing the screen refresh rate to 60Hz can help a bit.

It’s nice of your father  I hope the laptop arrives soon and without any damage. Shipping delays are frustrating, especially when they’re stuck in customs for a month. I had a similar experience with an SSD order that fortunately started shipping within a day.

My mom got me a laptop for Christmas and I’m 36—no shame at all. I’m very lucky to have her… and the gift! (No, I don’t live with her, haha.) Merry Christmas and enjoy it when it arrives!

Awww, you have such a wonderful father! Cherish him.

That’s pretty good! I’d just recommend upgrading the RAM and adding another SSD if your laptop has a slot for it.

It’s incredibly sweet, but outfitting a laptop with a 4050 GPU and giving it only 8GB of RAM is almost criminal.

These laptops are like the Nissan Altima of gaming laptops: everyone has one, and they tend to have a fair bit of issues.

I used to use an HP EliteBook 850G. If that’s a Nissan Altima, then mine was a beaten-up 2010 Saipa.

That’s a good base to start with. Ideally, you’d want at least 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Luckily, it’s upgradable, so you can do it yourself when you’re ready.

It’s the thought that counts. The laptop is okay. Just add more RAM. I’m not a big fan of Acer, but it will serve you well. Merry Christmas!

If possible, I would return it and use the credit to buy another one.

It’s a great laptop but definitely upgrade the RAM to 16GB. Check the current RAM configuration with software like Speccy or open the laptop to see what you need to buy. If you can stretch your budget, consider going for 32GB, as 16GB is becoming the minimum these days.

I have a laptop with similar base specs and highly recommend upgrading to 2x16GB RAM. It makes a huge difference, especially in demanding games.

I have the same laptop! Definitely upgrade the RAM to 16GB and consider more storage as well. It’s almost 5 months since I got mine, and it still looks new.

How is it 700k dinars? That’s about 6000 euros, what the heck!

Awesome dad!
