Budget MSI laptops are not well-regarded. They often don’t meet expectations. A quick search will show many reasons to avoid them. I recommend the Legion line, which I personally use. If you need to save a bit longer to afford one, it’s worth it. Consider laptops as long-term investments that should offer good returns.

Thanks for the heads up about MSI laptops! I’m currently using an Acer Nitro 5 from a few years back, and it’s struggling with newer games. Would you suggest I avoid buying a new laptop under $1,000 now and instead save for a high-end model, or is there a mid-range option that could be a good interim solution?
@Zara
You don’t need to spend $3k on a laptop. The Legion Pro 7i with a 4080 GPU, which I bought for $2k, is excellent and reasonably priced. It’s a solid choice and should last you a while. I recommend checking out reviews on YouTube to help make your decision. Jarrodstech, who is active on this forum, reviews a lot of Legion models and could be a good resource. Good luck with your purchase—it’s both stressful and exciting to shop for a gaming laptop.
@Hart
Paying $2 for a laptop would be a steal!

I would recommend going with the Legion. It’s a better overall laptop, even if the GPU is slightly less powerful.
The performance difference between the 4070 and 4060 isn’t significant. Considering the build quality and the lower cost, I’d recommend the Legion.

Thanks for the advice!
It depends on your gaming needs since there’s a difference in GPU and CPU between the two options, but the Legion seems like a solid deal. If you can afford the slight price increase, it might be worth going for the better model, as it’s a good deal for the features it offers.
@Dane
Do you think the prices might drop once the RTX 50 series comes out? I’ve had my current laptop for about 3 years, so I can wait if it means getting a better deal.

Prices might drop around Christmas or with the release of new hardware. If you’re not in a rush, waiting could benefit you. Just consider your current needs and how much you’re willing to wait for a potential deal.
@Dane
The latest updates for Call of Duty are pushing my current setup to its limits. I’ve deleted most of my games but only have 80 GB left, and it runs under 80 fps on medium to low settings. I’m willing to wait, but I’m not sure if my current PC will last without having to delete more content.
@Zara
You could buy an external hard drive to expand your storage temporarily. When you eventually upgrade your laptop, just transfer everything over.
@Zara
I just bought the Legion today. Previously, I had a Legion Slim 7 with a Ryzen 6800H and RTX 3060, and I was running out of space. The new laptop offers much better performance, and I doubt the prices will drop significantly even after new releases. Now’s a good time to buy!

If Nvidia stops producing the 4000 series GPUs like the 4070 and 4080, prices might actually increase due to scarcity. It’s tough to find new models of the RTX 3070 or 3080 unless they’re second-hand or refurbished.
Choose the Legion. The MSI option might break down sooner or overheat significantly. It’s not about if it will fail, but when.

I do enjoy fried eggs, so maybe that’s a plus?
@Zara
Unfortunately, I’m allergic to eggs.
