This a good deal or wait for Black Friday?

Reasonable deal.

You can find better.

Honestly as someone who owns it I would say you can get better. Why? The Acer is undervolt-locked for unknown reasons. There is a workaround by using SREP, but that’s the reality. The GPU is clocked to 1930MHz, which can be overclocked, but yeah. Also, it doesn’t have a Mini-LED screen at this price, so not so decent. Wait around, and you can get a 4090 one in a few days for around $2300. This laptop’s 4090 version is better as it has mini-LED. I saw it a few days ago for $2499, so I would suggest checking out gaminglaptop.deals and also keeping an eye on Lenovo. There is a Pro 7i with a 4090 going for $2499. Expect such deals as we near Black Friday, where 4090 laptops go around $2000. The laptop is great; I just wanted to make you aware about the undervolting issue, which can be fixed, but it’s really important because of the Intel fiasco. For $2000, it’s a deal if you can’t wait. I bought it for $100 more.

It’s a fair price, but make your life better and avoid buying Acer Predators. I have one and regret it.

Really??? I only hear good things about the Predator Helios. I don’t own one myself, but what issues did you have?

@Ari
I wanted to make a video review myself but never found the time to put it all together. Some of the gathered points were:

  • Unpolished software
  • Stuck with original drivers
  • HDD throttling
  • CPU throttling
  • Bad thermals
  • Inconsistent performance
  • Crappy speakers
  • Predator Sense software buggy
  • Screen bleed
  • Bad performance in battery mode
  • No possibility to undervolt CPU

@Devon
I’ve been eyeing an Acer Nitro AN-16 with RTX 4070. Now you’ve got me scared.

Take a look at Asus or Lenovo. They have some good options, especially on that screen size. I went for Acer because I wanted an 18-inch screen, but it’s not that great. Viewing angles could be better, and the colors as well.

@Devon
Thanks! My second option currently is HP Omen, but I’m waiting for a Black Friday deal.

This looks like a very reasonable desktop replacement. If I didn’t need portability, I would consider this laptop.

Hold!! Best is yet to come. Sites are trying to offload their trash in this period.

Honestly? Great laptop… But WTF WITH 18 INCH!!! THAT’S A DESKTOP…

That’s as good as it gets. I had to resort to a 13th-gen model because the price gap between the 13th and 14th-gen model was too great for me to justify buying it.

I would jump on it.

Wait a bit more, IMO. I keep seeing people finding RTX 4080’s Legion 7’s for around $1600-$2000, so if you can wait a bit more, it might be worth it.

Hella good deal from my perspective, as I bought a 4060 for $1800 in my country, so yeah.

I’m looking for a new laptop for my wife under $2k and almost pulled the trigger on this. She uses a laptop on the couch and likes her 17" size now. When I looked up the weight on this guy, it was like 3lbs heavier than her current laptop, so she vetoed it. Booo. Also, I was reading reviews, and this guy apparently has an obnoxiously loud fan if that matters to you.
