My wife and I are considering upgrading our ROG Strix G15 3070 AMD laptops and are not restricted by budget. We’re eager to upgrade soon and are considering smaller laptops for ease of travel, like the Razer laptops or the upcoming Zephyrus G14 with a 5080. Should we wait for the new GPUs, or will a high-spec 4090 laptop meet our needs now? Your thoughts are much appreciated!
I’d recommend waiting for the 5090 laptops with the 9955HX3D processors for the best performance.

I’m also waiting for the newest tech, no matter how long it takes.

It might take a while for these new models to be available, but if you’re not in a rush, it could be worth the wait.
@Ben
Sorry for the confusion in my initial post. I meant the Zephyrus G14 with a 4070 GPU, not the higher models.
Staying a generation behind can save you money and still offer a great experience, much like enjoying the PS4 during the PS5 scarcity.
The Zephyrus G14 with 32GB RAM is a good option. However, smaller laptops like the 4090 will have limited performance due to thermal constraints. Also, the price of newer models will be significantly higher, which might affect the availability and price of older models.
@Davin
Just to clarify, the 2024 G14 model only offers up to a 4070 GPU.

The portability and form factor are important to us, but I’m curious about the performance difference between a Razer Blade 14 with a 4090 and a potential Blade 16 with a 5090. Any insights?

If portability is a key factor and you’re considering expensive upgrades, why not evaluate the performance difference using specific games or applications you use frequently? This might help in making a cost-effective decision.
@Nico
I appreciate the sleek form of the Zephyrus G14 and its lighter weight compared to my current bulky laptop. It’s been about 4 years, and the upgrades seem justified, but I’m torn between waiting for the next-gen GPUs or settling for the 2024 model with a 4070.
If you need an upgrade now, go for the 4090, especially if it’s on sale. The performance improvement from waiting might not justify the higher cost and wait.

That’s what I was leaning towards. If the 5090 isn’t a huge leap forward, I might upgrade now and reconsider later.
I’m in a similar situation, trying to decide between upgrading now or waiting for the next generation.

It’s a tough choice, especially with potential discounts on current models. I’m hoping the next-gen performance boost will be significant enough to warrant the wait.
Given the proximity to the new releases, I’d suggest waiting for the 5090s. The performance gains, especially with new AI enhancements, could be substantial and worth the wait.

That’s a great point. The expected improvements in AI capabilities with the 5090 make it tempting to wait, even if it means a higher cost.
@Jules
Exactly, and with technology advancing so quickly, what’s a few more months if it means getting significantly better performance and future-proofing your investment?
@Jules
Also consider that technologies like DLSS 4 and MFG are likely to become more important in the coming years, making the wait for the 5090 potentially more beneficial.
Patience might be your best bet. Waiting for the 5090s to hit the market will allow you to make a more informed decision based on actual performance reviews and benchmarks.
